Our Story
Woodcrest Free Will Baptist Church was organized on a Friday evening, February 17, 1961 at 7pm with twenty-one charter members. The first location was on South 161st East Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was named “East Tulsa FWB Church”. Many of the old members recall the early days of meeting in an old chicken coop that had been renovated and converted into a church building.
After several remodels and additions, the membership grew to the point of needing a new facility. In October of 1991, Pastor Bailey Thompson led the membership in a relocation project that brought them to our present location at the corner of 193rd East Avenue and Pine Street in Catoosa, Oklahoma. It was at that time the church name was changed to “Woodcrest”. Brother Bailey Thompson retired after serving the congregation for fifteen years.
Woodcrest Church has a heart for the people of Catoosa. The church hosts an annual “teacher luncheon” for the faculty, staff, and administration of Catoosa Public School just before the school starts each year.
Woodcrest was founded on the sacred principles of God’s Word. The membership are committed to “the Great Commandment” of loving God and loving others (Matthew 22:37-40), and “The Great Commission”, of making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20)
The journey has been fruitful because of God’s power and fulfilling because of God’s purpose and blessing. We look forward to the future and what God has in store for His church as we walk with God by faith and strive to be the hands and feet of His Son, Jesus Christ.
